A SNOWY MOUNTAINS GETAWAY AT KALLARROO COTTAGE | JOURNAL

3 days and 2 nights completely disconnected from the outside world, our only form of communication, our lovely host Beata. This was our experience at Kallarroo Cottage, a log cabin nestled away within Nimmitabel, NSW.

It’d been 5 months since my husband and I had seen each other and longer since I’d taken a proper holiday. Being your own boss, you never really stop and if you forget to schedule holidays over Christmas… you guessed it, you work. I knew I needed some time away, we needed time and space together to switch off and reconnect so I searched Ripa for a dog friendly escape.

I’m a lover of nature, of old rustic charm and experiences so when I saw Kallarroo Cottage, I knew it was the perfect fit. We packed our bags, made a stop to pick up food for the days we were there (the closest town is 30mins away) and on Monday started our drive. It was only 2 hours from home, a little longer thanks to my wrong turn but once we arrived, I immediately felt at ease.

Beata gave us time to settle in and then met us to give us an overview of the cottage, their property and directions for the multiple walks around the property. The first night we simply enjoyed a drink together while the sun set, soaked in the view and then cuddled up inside by the fire.

The little details throughout the cottage were beautiful and appreciated. There were electric blankets, throws, a custom map, heated towel racks, tea, coffee, movies and games. We cooked together, sat by the fire, relaxed, watched movies and absorbed the stillness. By day we breathed in fresh air, listened to the wind blow through the tress, walked the tracks with our dogs around the property, enjoyed a few more drinks outside and by the fire.

Everything felt simple, like the weight of the past few months disappeared. We laughed, explored, rested and spent time with all the animals on the property. We left feeling refreshed and grateful for a little world of our own.

Kallarroo Cottage felt like a home away from home. If you’re looking for a place to disconnect, recharge and escape for a few days, I’d highly recommend it!
